Shepherd Rams volleyball advances to semifinals

(THE PICKET)—Fifth seeded Shepherd University battled and won against fourth seeded University of Virginia’s College at Wise for a five-set victory in the quarterfinal match of the Mountain East Conference volleyball tournament.

The Rams took a 27-25, 23-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 15-11 win.

With this win, Shepherd improves to 16-16.

Junior outside hitter/right side Grace Simmons and freshman middle blocker Sophie Foster both led the Rams with 13 kills. Foster added 10 blocks, while Simmons had four.

Samantha Scroggins, senior outside hitter/libero posted 10 kills and 14 digs for the Rams, while freshman setter Cyera Dixon recorded 17 digs and 49 assists.

Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Kelsey Anderson added 13 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Allison Crumling had 11.

The Rams rallied from a 7-3 deficit in the fifth set to secure the win. In the fifth set, Simmons had three kills and Foster added two.

After this game, the Rams advance to the semifinal round of the MEC tournament on Friday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. when they face the winner of the Wheeling Jesuit and West Virginia Wesleyan match.
