Rams Baseball Wins Series West Virginia State

The Shepherd University baseball team traveled to Mooresville, N.C., where they were able to pick up three wins in four games over the West Virginia State Yellow jackets.

The Rams picked up their first win of the series in game two of the doubleheader on Saturday, March 7. They picked up a narrow victory 4-3.

Shepherd trailed 2-0 going into the fourth inning before scoring four runs, which would be enough to earn the win.

Sophomore outfielder Jonathan Sarty got the rally started with an RBI single scoring senior outfielder Matt Wilson. It was Sarty’s only hit of the game.

Later in the inning, shortstop Tre Porter hit a two-run double to left-center field to give the Rams a 3-2 lead.

Sophomore Jacob Carney followed Porter up with an RBI single to left field, scoring Porter.

Junior pitcher Jamie Driver picked up the victory, going five innings while allowing eight hits, three runs and four strikeouts.

On Sunday, March 8, the Rams came ready to play, winning the first game of the day 10-5.

With the game tied 5-5 going into the seventh inning, Shepherd scored five runs off of three errors by West Virginia State.

All 10 of the Rams’ runs in the game were all unearned, as the Yellow jackets committed four errors during the game.

Senior pitcher Austin Hale earned the victory, evening his record to 1-1 on the season.

Shepherd followed up the game one victory by shutting out West Virginia State 8-0.

Carney and Porter each had two hits for the Rams.

Senior catcher Spencer Wolfe hit his first home run of the year in the fourth inning. He went one-for-two with four RBIs.

Senior Bryan DiRosario went five innings while allowing five hits, zero runs, one walk and three strikeouts. DiRasario picked up his second win of the season.

Shepherd’s only loss of the day came in the first game of the series, as they fell 3-1.

Carney recorded the Rams’ only run, hitting an RBI double to left-center field in the fifth inning.

The Rams improve their record to 6-2 on the season. Their next series will be at home on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 against UVa-Wise.
