Volleyball Finishes Third in Mountain East Conference

The Shepherd University Lady Rams finished in third place in the Mountain East Conference after winning one game this week against West Liberty.

The win came on Thursday, Nov. 6, as the Lady Rams topped the Lady Hilltoppers 3-1. Freshman Kayleigh Helgesen had a game-high 18 kills, while seniors Valerie Bour and Kayla Motheral each had double digit kills each. Bour recorded 16 and Motheral had 11. Senior Lauren Wilkins and freshman Kelsey Anderson led the Lady Rams with 12 digs each. Bour and senior Taylor Belella both had 11.

The Lady Rams dropped their match to University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown by the score of 3-1. Kayleigh Helgesen led the team once again with 17 kills while Valerie Bour had 16. Taylor Belella and Kelsey Anderson led the team in digs with 19 each. Cambria Wierman led the Lady Mountain Cats in kills with 17, while Devan Orr had a game-high 26 digs for her team.

Shepherd also lost to Wheeling Jesuit, the top team in the conference, 3-0. It was Kayleigh Helgesen and Valerie Bour leading the team once again in kills. Helgesen had 14 and Bour recorded nine. Kelsey Anderson led the Lady Rams with 13 digs. Emma Schleucher led the Lady Cardinals with 12 kills. Jessica Thobe led Wheeling Jesuit with 15 digs. Wheeling Jesuit finished the regular season undefeated in conference play at 16-0.

The Lady Rams will now play in the Mountain East Tournament this week, starting on Monday, Nov. 11, running through Friday, Nov. 15.
