Student Robbed on Campus

According to campus police a student reported a robbery near the underpass on early Sunday morning.

In an e-mail sent to members of the Shepherd community, John McAvoy, chief of campus police, said a student claims to have been robbed while walking from west campus to east campus at approximately 2am. Just after exiting the underpass, a male walking in the opposite direction, approached the student and pushed the student to the ground. Once on the ground, the mugger removed money from the victim’s pockets.

Police report no weapon was displayed or visible. The suspect is described as approximately 20 years old, of medium build with short brown hair. He was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of the robbery.

In an e-mail sent to The Picket, Chief McAvoy stressed that the incident didn’t occur in the underpass, nor should students cross the street rather than using the underpass. The victim was clear of the underpass and the mugger was approaching from the east campus area.

The Shepherd Police further encourage students to be aware of their surroundings, not to travel alone, and to remain in well-lighted areas.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact campus police at 304-876-5374.

Reports can be kept confidential.
