(THE PICKET)- The Shepherd Softball team hosted UVA-Wise on Monday and split the series. The Rams got shutout 6-0 in the first game and turned the tables in the second game, shutting out Wise 5-0.
Shepherd held the Cavaliers scoreless up until the fourth inning when they started doing some damage. UVA-Wise scored three runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth.
Paige Buckworth went 2-for-3 on the game.
Cavalier pitcher Taylor Brandts and her defense held the Rams to only three hits and zero runs. Shepherd committed two errors and Tara Hanson took the loss in the circle.
The tides changed in the second game of the double header. The Rams started out strong plating one run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Kaitlyn Konopka.
They added to their lead in the third inning with two RBI-singles by Kaitlin Munda and Connor Gilligan.
In the fifth inning Rachel Taylor singled to score Gilligan. Courtney Clemons added to the rally with an RBI-single scoring Taylor.
Konopka and Taylor were both 2-for-3 at the plate. Munda and the Rams defense held the Cavaliers to only four hits and no runs.
This series split puts the Rams over 20 wins with a record of 21-12 overall and 14-5 in the Mountain East Conference. The Rams take the field again on Friday when they host Wheeling Jesuit, number one in the North Division, for a 2 p.m. double header.
