Shepherd University women’s basketball takes a loss

(THE PICKET)—The Shepherd University Women’s basketball team played hard against Chowan University on Wednesday, Nov. 18, but couldn’t bring home the win. The Rams lost their third game of the season 57-72.

The Rams held the Hawks to a 1-point lead after the first quarter, making the score 15-16. The Rams held the lead the majority of the first half, although they never won a game by more than 5 points. The lead changed one time throughout the entire first half.

The Hawks broadened their lead in the second quarter when they scored 15 points to Shepherd’s 10. Chowan held the lead during the entire quarter, being up on the Rams by 8 at one point.

The Rams continued to battle and keep the game close. In the third quarter, the Rams held the Hawks to 21 points, scoring 17 of their own. Chowan was up on Shepherd by 12 points during sometime in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter sealed the deal for the Hawks, out-scoring the Rams 20-15. Shepherd kept it close, never losing by more than 12 points through the majority of the fourth quarter.

Morgan Arden, sophomore guard, led the team with 13 points and 4 assists in her 36 minutes of play. Kristen Nunn, freshman guard, added 12 points for the Rams.

Kari Lankford, freshman guard, led the team with 12 rebounds, 10 of which were defensive, in her 27 minutes of play.

With this loss, the Rams sit with a 0-3 record to start off the season.

Women’s basketball travels to Glenville State on Saturday, Nov. 21, for a 2 p.m. game.
