(THE PICKET) — The Shepherd men’s basketball team could not overcome a 17 point second half deficit Monday against the Notre Dame Falcons as they drop to 4-6 in conference play, including losses in two of their last three games.
The opening minutes of the game looked to be the beginning of a shootout that would take all 40 minutes to decide, but as any basketball fan will tell you, basketball is a game of runs, and the Falcons went on a run in which Shepherd would never recover.
The Falcons took a 13-point lead into the half, and would extend the lead to as much as 23 on their way to a 93-81 victory.
The Falcons Tyree Gaiter led all scorers with 32 points. AJ Carr led the Rams with 28 points and nine rebounds including five boards on offense. Shepherd shot 46 percent from the field compared to Notre Dame’s 54. The Falcons also out rebounded Shepherd 34-28.
The Rams will take the court again at 7:30 Thursday Jan. 21. when they travel to Fairmont State.
Carr had 28 points.
