Women’s basketball defeated by Notre Dame

(THE PICKET)–Notre Dame College kept a constant lead on Monday when they handed Shepherd a 65-84 loss. With this loss, Shepherd falls to 4-12 overall and 3-7 in Mountain East Conference play.

From the first whistle, Notre Dame took control with an immediate eight point lead. The Falcons doubled the Rams score in the first quarter 22-11. They also took the second and third quarters 20-12 and 22-13. Shepherd outscored the Falcons in the fourth 29-20, but it was too late for a comeback. The Falcons took home an 84-65 victory.

Sophomore guard Morgan Arden led the Rams with 19 points. She connected on 7-of-16 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from beyond the arc. Arden was 2-of-3 from the foul line. She added seven rebounds, a game-high four steals, and three assists.

Junior forward Liz Myers added 13 points, while sophomore guard Tiffany McKinney contributed 11. Freshman guard Kari Lankford added nine points and seven boards.

The Rams connected on 32.4 percent (22-68) from the floor with a 26.3 percent (5-19) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 69.6 percent of its free throws (16-23). Notre Dame hit on 55 percent (33-60) of its field goals with a 42.9 percent (9-21) effort from beyond the arc. The Falcons were successful on 69.2 percent (9-13) of their free throws.

Notre Dame had a 44-33 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 26 turnovers and committed 19.

The Rams return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 5:30 p.m. game.
