University police report second sexual assault since September

(THE PICKET) – A sexual assault was reported Wednesday, according to an email sent to Shepherd University students, faculty and staff from Shepherd’s Police Chief John McAvoy.

“In any event (I) cannot offer any comment right now about the email alert that went out (earlier today),” said Alan Perdue, general counsel for Shepherd University.

According to McAvoy’s Wednesday afternoon email, the assault occurred Tuesday night in one of the residence halls on campus. No further information was released.

“Limited information is available, but if information emerges that impacts the safety of the campus community, further alerts will be sent,” McAvoy’s email said.

This is the second report of sexual assault on campus this semester that has been relayed to the University community. The first report that was released to students on Sept. 27, but was not followed by any additional information.
