Lacrosse falls to 2-6 over Spring Break

(THE PICKET)- Shepherd’s Lacrosse Team struggled over spring break to keep their win streak alive. They played three games over break and added only one win to the books.

The Rams hosted Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on March 13th. They then traveled to Rome, Georgia, to take on Shorter University on the 16th. The Rams completed their spring break venture in Belmont, North Carolina, when they faced Belmont Abbey College on the 19th.

The Rams were handed a 2-11 defeat when they hosted Edinboro University. Erin Phelan and Brooke Hunley scored the two goals for Shepherd. Courtney Schwiegerath added an assist while Savannah Shores had seven saves for the Rams.

Shepherd turned the tables completely when they traveled to Shorter University, outscoring the Hawks for a 17-5 win. Sarah Wendt had two goals and Theresa Lang added one goal and three assists. Hunley, Kiana Miller, Kelsey Phelan and Courtney Matthews each had a goal for the Rams. Shores had three saves on the day and Casey Hickman added one to the four combined saves for the Rams. Shepherd had a 14-3 lead at halftime.

The Rams one-game winning streak was put to a screeching halt when they traveled to Belmont, North Carolina, to take on Belmont Abbey College.  Shepherd was outscored 6-1 in the first half and took a 5-10 loss to the Crusaders. E. Phelan led the Rams with two goals and an assist. Haley Price and Wendt each added a goal. Shores recorded seven saves for the Rams.

Shepherd sits at 2-6 overall on the season. They host Converse College at 3 p.m. on April 1st at Ram Stadium.
