Huber And Scranage Depart; Admissions Department Restructures

After three months with Shepherd University, Director of Admissions Matt Huber has left and Vice President for Enrollment Management Kim Scranage will soon join him.

Huber’s departure may seem sudden to many. In an interview with the Picket, Shepherd President Dr. Suzanne Shipley stated that Huber and the university “came to a mutual agreement” regarding his departure and that “we wish him well in the future.” No further details are currently available as to the circumstances of his departure.

Scranage, who has been with the university for nine years, will be leaving on Oct. 4 to take the position of Vice President for Enrollment Management at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. In an e-mail sent on Aug. 20 to faculty and staff, President Shipley highlighted how Scranage has “positively impacted Shepherd during her” time here.

Shipley said, “She [Scranage] has introduced cutting-edge concepts into our marketing and admissions processes, modernizing our outreach to this generation of students through technology and design.”

At present, according to Shipley, the university is not searching for a new Director of Admissions. Two existing employees of the department have been named Associate Admissions Directors, Kristan Price and Katie Whitmire. She did say that once a new Vice President for Enrollment Management is hired, he or she will decide how to restructure the admissions department, whether to hire a new director or keep the associate system in place.

The search for a new Vice President of Enrollment Management will begin in December, with the hope to have someone in place by the April 1. Shipley indicated the search will be nationwide, but acknowledged with the current economic climate, enrollment management officials are hard to come by due to the decreasing enrollment numbers in four-year colleges.

In the meantime, Shipley stated the university is looking for an interim Vice President for Enrollment Management to serve until a replacement is found.
