Fashion Ideas for In-between Seasons

The weather has been fickle lately making it hard to decide what to wear. How warm is it? Is it supposed to snow or rain? Do I need sunglasses? (The answer to that is always yes.) So when it can go from 10-50 degrees on any given day, here’s what you do: You layer.

This is a way of updating your look without having to go shopping, which really is convenient for us broke college students. Revisit items in your closet that haven’t been worn in a while and have fun with it.

Start with something basic like jeans and a tee-shirt, and then build your outfit from there. An oversized blazer, a sweater, or a men’s oxford shirt are all fantastic options to slip on. If it’s on the colder side, don’t forget a warm coat. Choose something in a color that suits your taste or a unique shape. Strong shoulders or an interesting lapel on a coat always look sharp. As far as color goes, pick one that you like. Choosing a bold color (think pink, yellow, green, etc.) for a coat isn’t a must. Colors such as black, gray, navy blue or even white are classic and timeless colors.

Can we talk about belts? I love belts, I believe in belts, but I also know belts can get boring. You’ve seen one skinny waist belt, you’ve seen them all, right? Wrong. That men’s oxford I briefly mentioned? Belt it. For a more daring look, slide that buckle to the back instead of front and center. Coats always look chic when cinched at the waist with a belt, maybe even two.

Accessories can be fun and almost anything you want. They vary greatly among different types of personal style. A more minimalistic look requires few or no accessories. One might choose to stack some simple rings or a thin bangle bracelet. A person with a more eclectic style may want to play with scarves or even try a voluminous neck bow.

Sunglasses are an item that most people wear and can say magnitudes about someone’s style. A classic shape that looks good on men and women alike is the wayfarer, and it can come in various frame and lens colors. The cat-eye sunglasses are a favorite of mine and add ample sass to anything you are wearing. Aviators are another tried and true favorite that lend an air of coolness to the wearer. Let’s not forget Lolita shades. These heart-shaped sunglasses are playful in all the right ways. Of course these are just a few of the many sunglasses available, so pick a pair that suits you.

Fashion can often be seen as trivial, but it is an expression of self, so always wear what you’re comfortable and confident in. Try combinations of clothes that make sense to you and rock it with pride.
