As fall break approaches many Shepherd students will be looking for places to visit. Well look no further! Here are some great places to escape for a day.
Those of you who are seeking thrills and maybe even chills during break, visit Kings Dominion for your Halloween Haunt. Each weekend night Kings Dominion turns into a horror-filled nightmare. A few of the attractions include a 3D haunted house, a slaughter house maze, and the cleaver brother’s carnival. The roller coasters and thrill rides are open as well. Tickets for the haunt are $32.99. You can buy online and save $6.00. Over fall break, explore the Halloween haunt, if you dare.
For more than 130 years, Luray Caverns has been renowned as one of the world’s most spectacular natural wonders. Since its discovery in 1878 by a tinsmith and a local photographer, millions of visitors from around the globe have made Luray Caverns the most popular cave in eastern America. Follow a one-hour tour that leads to enormous rooms ten stories high. Also, in this wonderful natural landmark, you can “hear the rocks sing.” The Great Stalacpipe Organ creates beautiful tones by a truly one-of-a-kind instrument. Grab some blankets and visit the only drive-in theatre left in the Northern Virginia and D.C. metro area. The Family Drive-In Theatre in Stephens City, Va. opened on July 14, 1956 and it’s still a great place to watch a movie. You can watch two movies for an $8 ticket. The Family Drive-In is now operating on a weekend-only schedule during the fall. Enjoy a movie under the stars!
For those of you that are animal lovers, visit the National Aquarium located in Baltimore, Md. at the Inner Harbor. The National Aquarium is world-famous and features many exhibits with 17,000 animals such as a rainforest exhibit, a shark alley exhibit and a coral reef exhibit. The aquarium also has a dolphin show that is included with admission and 4-D immersion films that bring you closer to the action. Tickets for the aquarium are $34.95. If you are trying to save money, they are having a special promotion called “Friday After Five.” “Friday After Five” is running from September through March. You can enter the aquarium any time after 5 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and your ticket price is just $12. This fall break, be sure to visit Maryland’s leading tourist attraction, The National Aquarium. It will not let you down.
