A Shepherd University alumnus is the face behind the well-known Twitter account @SURamsFanatic.

Who is @SURamsFanatic?

(The Picket) – SURamsFanatic is a Twitter handle most Shepherd University students, faculty, staff and alumni are used to following for the latest in Shepherd news and sports. Some may wonder, who is the face behind such a popular Twitter account?

Tom Papeika, also known as the SURamsFanatic, is a Shepherd alumni. Tateika attended Shepherd 1992 through 1996 and graduated a McMurran Scholar. To be a McMurran Scholar one must have a cumulative GPA of 3.86 and be nominated by a minimum of three faculty members.

“Shepherd football brings the fans and the community together. It is honestly one of the best Division II atmospheres in college football,” Papeika said. “Shepherd just nails the game day experience.”

Papeika has always been a football fan, never missing a Shepherd home game. One of his daughters went to Villanova University and he follows their football program almost as closely as he follows Shepherd’s. Another daughter attends Millersville University, in Millersville, Pennsylvania, also a Division II school.

“I enjoyed my time at Shepherd. I was an English and history major and the professors were fantastic,” Papeika said.
Aside from being a former student, Papeika’s wife is a former nursing professor at Shepherd and one of his daughters is a student Shepherd.

Papeika is from Annville, Pennsylvania, which is roughly about two hours away from Shepherdstown. He is the sales manager of a large garden center.

In addition to closely following the Shepherd football program, Papeika is passionate about wood working. That hobby will be on the back burner this weekend as he travels to Kansas City to cheer on his alma mater in the National Division II Football Championship.
