Shepherd men’s soccer falls in season opener 3-0

(THE PICKET) – The Shepherd men’s soccer team lost their season opener today against the East Stroudsburg University Warriors by a score of 3 to 0.

The Warriors controlled the tempo from the beginning of the game to the final whistle.

The Warriors jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Casey Choffy at the 7:21 mark; assisted by Christian Bukowski. The Warriors added another goal just 11 minutes later when a free kick from Jeff Wolf was headed in by Johnathan Stuppe.

The Rams defense and goalie kept the Warriors scoreless for the remainder of the first half and well into the second half until James McMahon netted the third and final goal in the 71st minute to put the game out of reach.

Today’s game was not low in the shot column with a combined total of 24 shots being taken between the two teams. The rams had six shots throughout the game but only registered one shot on goal; Drew Rose in the 88th minute. The Warriors had 18 shots registering four shots on goal.

The Rams will play again Tuesday Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. against the Notre Dame College Falcons.
