Sexual Assault Reported on Campus

Shepherd University's 143rd commencement ceremony will be help at 1:50 p.m. in the James A. and Evelyn R. Butcher Center on May 7.

According to an e-mail released by John McAvoy, chief of campus police, a Shepherd student has filed a report of being sexually assaulted by another student.

The alleged assault took place sometime between late April 17th and early April 18th, according to the e-mail.

McAvoy reported that a suspect has been identified and “the criminal court processes are being pursued.”

No further information on the situation is available at this time.

McAvoy encouraged students to “exercise due care” when around unknown persons.  Additionally, he stressed the need to be careful when “spend[ing] time alone with a single other person in a residence hall room or apartment.”
