Just before 9 p.m. Shepherd University issued a Rave Alert reporting a female subject had been assaulted in the area of Shaw Hall.
Police are advising students on campus and residents in Shepherdstown to stay inside and secure.
The suspect was described as a white male, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, possibly driving a tan car.
Eye witnesses reported seeing an ambulance leaving the area of Shaw Hall.
The Jefferson County Emergency Communications Centers reported that the incident is being investigated by Shepherd University Police with Shepherdstown Police and Jefferson County Sheriffs Department still responding.
Emergency communication could not confirm if anyone was injured or if anyone was being transported from the scene.
