SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va., – Shepherd University (0-7-2, 0-7-1 PSAC East) held their own against nationally ranked #8 Millersville University (9-0-0, 7-0-0 PSAC East) in a 1-0 loss on Saturday in women’s soccer.
The Shepherd defense held the potent Millersville offense in check, allowing just one goal on the day. The goal was scored by senior Kay Liebl who had three shots on goal during the game.
Shepherd goalies collected 12 saves on Saturday. Lulu Fricks had four saves and Meghan Byers had the other eight.
“Shoutout to Meghan Byers. She worked really hard today as well as the rest of the team.” Fricks said. “I think progress is coming, we just have to keep on moving.”
Coming into the game, Millersville had scored at least three goals five times on the season. Shepherd players felt that a 1-0 result was a moral victory.
“I think even though it was a loss, we can really walk out of here with our heads held high,” Fricks said. “Not only were they the number eight team in the nation, but they were number two in the PSAC and we held them to a 1-0 win.”
Millersville will look to stay undefeated on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to East Stroudsburg University.
Shepherd’s next game will be at home on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. as they take on Daemen College.
