The Shepherd University women’s soccer team has managed to win only one out of their last three games with their most recent victory coming against Wheeling Jesuit on Sept. 20. The Lady Rams find themselves near the bottom of the Mountain East Conference women’s soccer standings as they are seventh out of eight teams with a 1-4 record against conference opponents. They now face a deep hole to dig out of, however, the team is about halfway through the season.
On Sept. 23 the Rams hosted West Virginia Wesleyan and fell by the score of 1-0. Shepherd held a 16-13 advantage in shots though none would find the back of the net. The only goal of the match came just minutes after the start when Keenan Moreta scored off an assist from Megan McCoy at the 7:37 mark.
The Lady Rams then traveled to Notre Dame College (Ohio) and would lose their second game in a row by the score of 5-0 on Sept. 27. Alex Defilippo led Notre Dame by scoring two goals and assisting on another. Jilian Doss and Jordan Smith also tallied goals for the Lady Falcons.
Notre Dame College played dominating offense and defense throughout the match while the Lady Rams struggled possessing the ball and moving the ball past the midfield line. Shepherd even scored an own goal in the 31st minute.
The loss drops the Shepherd University women’s soccer team overall record to 3-5-1. Their next game will take place at home when they play West Liberty University on Oct. 1. They will then travel to Urbana University on Oct. 5.
