SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va., – Shepherd University (0-5-1, 0-5-0 PSAC) was defeated 4-0 by Shippensburg University (4-3, 2-3 PSAC) in PSAC women’s soccer Wednesday.
Shippensburg got on the board in the 31st minute on a goal by junior forward Casey Bell. Bell headed the ball in on a second chance opportunity for her first goal of the season.
After leading 1-0 through the first 45 minutes, the Raiders would pile it on in the second half, scoring three goals. K.K. O’Donnell, Lauren Ocker and Izzy Weigel all contributed a goal each. Eleven players by Shippensburg recorded at least one shot.
O’Donnell and Weigel were pivotal for Shippensburg. Each of them had a goal and an assist with Weigel recording three shots and O’Donnell tallying four.
Shepherd had four shots on the game. Two shots were by Sara Hohn, one was by Emalee Travagline and the other was by Mikayla Azar. The Rams were outshot 23-4.
The best opportunities for Shepherd came in the second half when they were able to earn three corner kicks.
“In the second half we had a lot of opportunities because we were working more together,” said sophomore Victoria Baker. “We need to work and talk more often.”
Shepherd’s next game will be at home against Mansfield University Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Shippensburg will be at home against Kutztown for their next game which will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
