Lady Rams were beaten by the Golden Eagles of University of Charleston 64-73 on Tuesday. With this loss, Shepherd falls to 4-10 overall and 3-5 in the Mountain East Conference.
Kiara Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Charleston to victory.
Freshman guard Kristen Nunn led the Rams with 18 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Liz Myers had 14 points and nine boards and sophomore guard Morgan Arden had 14 points, five assists and five steals.
At the end of the first quarter, the game was tied 19-19. The Golden Eagles edged out the Rams in the second quarter 16-13. Shepherd fought back and won the third quarter 19-14, making the score 51-49 with Shepherd in the lead. UC outscored Shepherd in 24-13 in the fourth quarter, enough to win the game 73-64.
The game featured 14 lead changes, seven per team.
The Rams connected on 34.8 percent (24-69) from the floor with a 30 percent (6-20) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 62.5 percent of its free throws (10-16). Charleston hit on 41 percent (25-61) of its field goals with a 33.3 percent (6-18) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles were successful on 60.7 percent (17-28) of their free throws.
Charleston had a 50-41 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 16 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to the court on Saturday when they host Urbana for a 2 p.m. game.
