(THE PICKET)- The Rams’ five-game win streak was broken on Wednesday when Shepherd was shut out twice by the West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats. WVWC has been the only Mountain East Conference losses for Shepherd.
In the first game of the double-header the Bobcats started strong with a 3-run RBI double in the first inning. The Rams got six hits over seven innings but were not able to plate any runs, leaving seven runners on base.
Both the Rams and Bobcats committed one error. WVWC took a 3-0 win in the first game.
The second game of the series started out slow. The pace was picked up by the Bobcats when they scored two in the top of the second. Those runs were unanswered and then added to in the fourth inning when Wesleyan scored two more runs.
The Rams were unable to put the bat on the ball with Sayaka Foley in the circle for the Bobcats.
WVWC put up 13 hits and one error while Shepherd had one error with zero hits. The Bobcats swept the series with a 4-0 win in the second game.
The Rams now sit at 13-8 overall and 7-2 in conference. The Shepherd Softball team travels to Notre Dame College on Saturday for double-header series and then to Urbana University on Sunday for another series.
