Trademark restaurant closes; Police charge employee

(THE PICKET) – Tony’s, a trademark eatery in Shepherdstown has closed its doors after years of business and recent incidents of selling alcohol without a valid liquor license.

“On August 12, people were sent into Tony’s to be served alcohol after we had reports the business was continuing to serve alcohol without a license,” said Sgt. Mike King of the Shepherdstown Police Department.

Joshua Hines, 41, of Shepherdstown, an employee of the establishment was charged with selling alcohol without a license.

King said that the ownership was aware they did not have a valid license by the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration before the Aug. 12 incident.

According to the ABC administration website, the establishment’s license expired June 30, 2015.

“We again made them aware their license had been suspended,” King said.

On Sept. 4, investigators were notified the business was again selling alcohol and allowing customers to bring their own alcoholic beverages into the establishment, according to King.

“The Sept. 4 incident resulted in charges pending against two employees and three citations were issued,” King said.

According to King, three citations were issued for underage drinking and one for public intoxication.

“Well since I was the owner, I guess I’m the one you can/want to talk too,” said Carrie Corwine in an email. “I signed a (non-disclosure agreement) on the sale, so I am limited by law in what I can discuss.”

Corwine said she was the owner of the establishment for 11 and a half years.

“I do have some concerns which we can verbally discuss,” Corwine said.

Corwine did not respond to any further questions.
