The Town Run Brewery hosts Election watch party

Donald Trump stuns the crowd at the Town Run Brewery in Shepherdstown with his victory.

Hillary Clinton supporters were confident as the polls began to close that Clinton would carry the election. The national, state, and exit polls predicted that Clinton would win.

As the votes were counted and states were called for either candidate, neither one could pull ahead in electoral votes.

The viewers at the Town Run became anxious as Trump won key swing states, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida.

“I don’t even know what to say. I’m so nervous. I honestly didn’t think him winning was even a possibility, and now he has just won Florida,” said, Tamira Patterson, a Shepherd University student.

Viewers were still hopeful that Clinton would pull through as they watched and waited for Pennsylvania to be called.

Those hopes were soon diminished as Pennsylvania, a state that has not supported a Republican for president since 1988, went to Donald Trump, bringing him to the 270 electoral votes that he needed to become president of the United States.

“I’m shocked and I’m sad, and I’m terrified for this country, and I don’t think I’m going to sleep well tonight, or for the next four years,” said, Mary Beth Kilmer, manager of the Blue Moon Café.

The dismay was palpable as viewers left the Town Run but as President Barack Obama said in regards to the election, “No matter what happens, the sun will rise in the morning, and America will still be the greatest nation on Earth.”
