Emily Oliver and Jeremiah Guice are creating a swing dancing club on campus after taking dancing classes previous semesters.
“Honestly it just seemed like a lot of fun,” Oliver, a junior majoring in global studies, said. “It was
different and I needed an extra class.”
Guice is a freshman communications and new media major at Shepherd who took the swing dancing class in 2017.
“Well I have always had interest in the music from that period,” he said. “To dance to it seemed like fun.”
They organize trips to Glen Echo Park in Maryland and are recruiting other Shepherd University students to come along. They have a Facebook group called the Shepherd Swing-Dance Club in which people can join and carpool with them.
The group is going through the approval process and the club should be a reality soon. Oliver and Guice will be the instructors. There will occasionally be guest instructors.
Students do not need prior swing dancing experience or a partner to join Shepherd Swing-Dance Club.
