This past week, the Shepherd University Football team hosted Clarion University at home. While they were hosting, the Men’s Soccer team traveled to face off against #21 East Stroudsburg University as the Women’s Soccer team stayed home to host their Women’s team. Moreover, the Men’s and Women’s Tennis matches were cancelled on Saturday, Sept. 21 due to inclement weather. Finally, the Volleyball team took a trip to Pennsylvania for the weekend to face off in the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Tournament.
Ram’s Football
The Football team beat Clarion University’s Golden Eagles 27-9 at Ram Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 21, redeeming themselves after a crushing defeat in the home game opener on Sept. 14 against Slippery Rock.
Redshirt Junior Quarterback Lek Powell led the team with 286 total yards and two passing touchdowns.
Grad-student Running Back Grant Swinehart led the team with 63 rushing yards.
Junior Wide Receiver Cameron Dorner led the team with four catches for 100 yards and one touchdown.
Senior Wide Receiver Barry Hill was second in receiving yards with 67 and capped off with one touchdown.
The defensive side of the ball was led by Redshirt Junior Linebacker Cole Scott who had six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception returned for a touchdown.
Redshirt Sophomore Defensive Lineman Elijah Queen led the team with 1.5 sacks.
Sophomore Defensive-Back Miles Greer accumulated one interception, one pass break up, half a sack and assisted on a tackle for loss.
Rams Soccer
The Men’s Soccer team were defeated by the East Stroudsburg Warriors 1-3 on Saturday Sept. 21, struggling to get any shots or score on offense.
Sophomore Midfielder Josue Guzman led the team with one goal.
Freshman Goalkeeper Aidan Houck recorded seven saves for the Rams.
Lady Rams Soccer
The Women’s Soccer team blew out #21 East Stroudsburg’s Warriors on Saturday, Sept. 21 in a 3-0 win to advance their undefeated record to 3-0-2, their first time defeating a ranked team.
Freshman Forward Lydia Gable led the team to victory with three assists, two shots and two shots on goal.
The goals accumulated by Shepherd were from Junior Midfielder Sarah Peternel, Sophomore Midfielder Reagan Ackermann, and Freshman Midfielder Annabelle Wunderlich.
Sophomore Goalkeeper Hannah Wilt had three saves for the Rams.
Lady Rams Volleyball
The Volleyball team suffered a string of defeats in the IUP tournament in Indiana, Pennsylvania on Friday, Sept. 20, taking their first losses of the season.
Vs. Daemen University
The Lady Rams lost 2-3 in their first match on Friday, Sept. 20 against Daemen’s Wildcats, despite leading with thirteen blocks.
Junior Middle Blocker/Right-Side Hitter Joi Fairweather led the Rams with 11 kills and accumulated five blocks.
Freshman Middle Blocker/Hitter Rylee Lenz led the Rams with eight blocks.
Sophomore Setter Macy Buso led the Rams with 32 assists.
Junior Libero/Defensive Specialist Madigan Faircloth led the Rams with 17 digs.
Vs. University of Pittsburg – Johnstown
Later that evening, the Rams were defeated 1-3 against Pitt-Johnstown’s Mountain Cats.
Sophomore Outside Hitter Amya Davis led the Rams with 10 kills.
Fairweather led the Rams with four blocks.
Buso led the Rams with 34 assists and 15 digs.
Vs. Indiana (IUP)
The following day on Saturday, Sept. 21, the Lady Rams were defeated 1-3 by IUP’s Crimson Hawks, adding to the continuation of their losing streak in the IUP tournament.
Fairweather led the Rams with 12 kills.
Sophomore Middle Hitter/Right Side Sophia Ryan led the Rams with 10 blocks.
Buso led the Rams with 25 assists and 16 digs.
Vs. Chestnut Hill
The Lady Rams were defeated 1-3 by Chestnut Hill University’s Griffins on Saturday, Sept. 21 in their final game of the tournament.
Davis led the Rams with 10 kills.
Ryan led the Rams with six blocks.
Buso led the Rams with 20 assists and 11 digs.
