(THE PICKET)- The Rams traveled to Shippensburg University on Wednesday, April 6, and split the double header. Game one was a standstill until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Raiders got on the board scoring two runs.
The Rams quickly fought back and scored three in the top of the fifth inning to put them in the lead by one run. Those runs went unanswered up until the sixth inning when Shippensburg scored two. Reaching on an error, Alexandra Witt scored in the seventh to tie up the ball game and force extra innings.
The Rams were unable to plate any runs in the top of the eighth, and Shippensburg ended the game with a walk off home run down the left field line. Tara Hanson took the 4-5 loss for the Rams.
In what seems to be the Rams’ fashion, the tables turned for them in the second game. In the third inning Kaitlin Munda doubled to score two runs and put Shepherd on the board. The Raiders countered back plating one run in the bottom of the inning.
Only up by one, the Rams knew they needed to give this game all they had to take home a win. In the fourth inning, Kaitlyn Konopka walked, which scored a run. With a sacrifice fly by Jessica Robinson another run scored and the Rams were quickly up by three.
The Rams brought the fight again in the fifth inning when Molly Staley had a 2-RBI single to right center. Still unanswered by the Raiders, the Rams went on to score one more in the sixth on an RBI-single from Witt.
Shippensburg scored on in the seventh but that was not enough to bring them out of a 7-2 deficit, and they were handed a loss. Kaitlin Munda got the win for the Rams in the circle.
This series puts the Rams at 12-3 in the conference and 19-10 overall. They take the field again on Saturday when they host UVA-Wise for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
