Shepherd Softball suffered two close losses to Wheeling Jesuit University in a doubleheader today.
In the first game, the Rams’ were defeated by a score of 3-1. Jesuit gained the lead early in the game with a pair of RBIs from Mallory Chapman and Rachel Conrad in the third inning.
Shepherd scored in the bottom of the third with an RBI from sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Konopka. However, Jesuit added to their lead with a run in the sixth inning. Junior pitcher Kaitlin Munda lost the first game of the day for the Rams.
Jesuit again took the lead early in the second game, which ended with a score of 2-0. Jesuit had runs in both the third and fourth innings, with the second on an RBI from Taylor DiPerna. Senior pitcher Tara Hanson took the second loss for the Rams.
Both pitching and capitalizing on opportunities were struggles for the Rams today. They scored only one run on ten hits in the day, and allowed a combined 19 hits for Jesuit.
The Rams will try to get back on the right track tomorrow when they face West Liberty University at home with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
