Softball Adds New Coach

Shepherd University head softball coach Leslie Lopez announced on Aug. 9, 2012, that Danielle Easton would be named the team’s assistant softball coach. She is replacing Jess Detrick, who left the team last year to follow other career interests. Easton, who spent last season as an assistant coach at Washington & Jefferson College, is joining a Rams team that finished last season with an impressive 31-24 overall record; however, they were eliminated from the WVIAC tournament in the first day of competition.

Easton is originally from Hanover, Pa., and attended South Western High School, where she graduated in 2007. While at South Western, she was active in the school’s athletics and played softball, basketball and field hockey. After graduating high school, Danielle Easton attended California University of Pennsylvania from 2007-2011, where she was a four year starter and played catcher and third base for the university’s softball team.

Her career at Cal was exceptional and she earned many accolades on and off the softball field including being a NFCA Scholar athlete and a three-time First Team All-PSAC West selection. In addition, in her junior season (2010), Easton gained a First Team NFCA All-Region selection. Finally, the California University of Pennsylvania won the PSAC West and attended the regional tournament all four years she played there. Easton graduated from the university in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders.

As an assistant coach for the Shepherd University softball team, Danielle Easton will primarily work with the infield and hitters but her extensive experience in the sport will be an important asset to the team as they look to improve on last season’s success.
