Shepherd volleyball goes 1-3 at Lock Haven tournament

Shepherd University’s women’s volleyball team traveled to Lock Haven, Pa. Friday, Sept. 11, for a tournament, coming out with one win and three losses.

On Friday, Sept. 11, Rams took on Wayne State University and lost three sets to one. Shepherd started off strong winning the first set 25-21. Rams kept the scores close losing 22-25, 27-29 and 17-25. Shepherd towered in terms of blockage, with 13 blocks to WSU’s five.

Senior outside hitter Taylor Allen had eight kills and senior outside hitter and libero Samantha Scroggins added seven. Sophomore Kelsey Anderson topped the Rams with 16 digs while freshman setter Cyera Dixon added 11 assists and a pair of aces. Hannah Monroe led Wayne State with 12 kills and 13 digs.

The Rams took on Long Island University Post for their second match on Friday, taking the loss in that game as well. Shepherd took this game to four sets, losing three to one. Shepherd won the first set 25-13 and lost the next three, keeping them close at 23-25, 17-25, 15-25.

Junior outside hitter/right side Grace Simmons and Scroggins each had six kills against LIU Post. Dixon had 12 assists while Anderson posted a high of 14 digs. Rachel Londot had 13 kills and 15 digs to lead LIU Post.

Shepherd started off the second day of the tournament with a three set win over Salem International. Seniors Scroggins and Allen topped the Rams stats this match with nine and eight kills. Allen and Anderson both had 15 digs, while setter Dixon added 11 assists. Rachel Hess led the SIU Tigers with eight kills.

The Ram’s momentum slowed in their match against Lock Haven, losing in three sets. Shepherd took the setback, losing 14-25, 11-25 and 23-25. Allen had 11 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Anderson topped both teams putting up 12 digs for the Rams. Sarah Gormish had 13 kills and 10 digs to help Lock Haven bring it home.

The Rams head into the week with an overall record of three wins and four losses. They return to action on Tuesday when they head to Indiana, Pa. for a 6 p.m. match.
