Rams volleyball wins the weekend

(THE PICKET)—The Shepherd Rams took full advantage of the home court this weekend beating Urbana University on Friday, Oct. 30, and Notre Dame College on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Shepherd battled with Urbana to the very end, taking the victory in five sets, 13-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22 and 15-13. The Rams rallied from a 13-10 deficit in the fifth set behind an ace from freshman setter Becca Kern and four kills from sophomore outside hitter Amanda Snowden to secure the win. Snowden led the Rams with a match high 18 kills, while senior outside hitter/libero Samantha Scroggins had 15, and junior outside hitter/right side Grace Simmons added 11.

Scroggins paced the match with a match-high 18 digs, three aces and two blocks. Freshman setter Cyera Dixon recorded 46 assists and freshman middle blocker/right side Sophie Foster had five blocks. Aleese Butler tied Snowden with a match-high 18 kills for the Blue Knights. Kaitlynn Dunlap added 12 kills and six digs, while Mary Hendricks had 43 assists.

The Rams downed Notre Dame three games to one with a 25-17, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-18 victory. Snowden led the Rams with a match-high 15 kills and a .429 attack percentage. Scroggins had 14 kills and a pair of aces, while Foster had 10 kills and a match-high six blocks. Dixon recorded 36 assists and had 10 digs while sophomore libero Kelsey Anderson had a team-best 15 digs.

Lindsay Shirilla posted 12 kills, and Tawnia Almaraz had a match-high 16 digs for the Falcons.

With these wins, Shepherd improves to 12-13 overall and 7-5 in the Mountain East Conference.

The Rams return to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when they travel to Fairmont State University for a 7 p.m. match.
