Shepherd Softball goes undefeated over the weekend

(THE PICKET) – The Shepherd Rams Softball team currently sits on a seven-game win streak after shutting down Wheeling Jesuit in all four games of the series and ramming West Liberty with a two-game defeat.

The Rams hosted Wheeling Jesuit on Friday and Saturday for double headers on both days. In the first game of the series Shepherd set the tone and took a dominating 11-4 win. The Rams had 11 hits. Alexandra Witt homered in the second inning and went 3-for-3 on the game. Kaitlin Munda took the W in the circle and went 2-for-4.

Shepherd continued to keep control in the second game sending the Cardinals to the hotel with an 8-4 loss. Of their 11 hits, Courtney Clemons went 3-for-3 and Kaitlyn Konopka went 3-for-5. Munda took over for Kirsten Barstad and got the win for the Rams.

The Rams came into the second day of the series strong and defeated Wheeling Jesuit 6-4 on Saturday. Keeping the bats hot from the day before, Shepherd had 11 hits. Connor Gilligan went 2-for-2 and Konopka went 2-for-4. Munda got the win in the circle.

Shepherd finished the series strong sending the Cardinals packing with a 9-1 defeat. Wheeling Jesuit had seemed to have had enough. Seven of the nine runs were unearned, all off of Cardinal errors. The Rams had a big fourth inning scoring seven of their nine runs. Clemons went 3-for-3 for the game and Barstad got the win.

Sunday rolled around and Shepherd rammed West Liberty right off the bat in the first inning with back-to-back solo home runs from Clemons and Konopka. Shepherd handed out another defeat. Clemons went 2-for-3 and Konopka went 3-for-4 in their 6-1 win, pitched by Munda.

The Rams were not tired of sending teams home disappointed and added one more to their list. The Hilltoppers took a 6-1 defeat in the second game of the double header. Of their 10 hits, Konopka, Rachel Taylor and Jessica Robinson all went 2-for-3. Barstad got the win in the circle.

The Rams lead the Mountain East Conference with a record of 27-12 overall and 20-5 in the MEC. The Rams continue their home stand on Monday when they host Lock Haven University for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
