The Shepherd men’s soccer team lost to the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit University 5- to-0 in a Tuesday night game in Wheeling West Virginia October 3, 2017.
The Rams had a tough time on the road from start to finish, as the Cardinals would get their offensive attack started early, at the 5:40 mark Owain Hawkins gave the Cardinals their first score. In the next minute, Micah Tatebe would score another goal assisted by Jordan Simpson.
The Rams would take only 8 shots the whole game, which 5 of them were all in the first half. Compared to the Cardinals taking 7 shots on goal in the first half, and 16 total. It would be a long day for senior Jacob Clements as he racked up 11 saves on the night.
The second half started off just like the first as within the first five minutes Wheeling scored off an header in the bottom left corner of the net by Matt Vogt. The Rams would try to put together some offense of their own as Nathaniel Sanders would fire a shot but was wide of the goal. In the 59:54 mark junior Alejandro Oliart would take a good attempt but was saved by goalkeeper Tyler Shotwell.
In 61st minute Vogt would score his second goal assisted by Martin Minuzzi, making the score 4-0. The Rams would make a few substitutions to get fresh legs on the field, but it would not be enough as in the 81:26 mark of the game the Cardinals would score again. They also would shutout the Rams from scoring. Time would expire making the Rams (0-9-1) on the season.
The Rams look to get their first win on the season, when they travel to face West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m.
