Shepherd Men Top West Virginia Wesleyan

The Rams took on West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 3 for their first game in this year’s Mountain East Conference tournament and walked away with a 63-56 victory. The Rams entered the contest after a .500 season.

The Rams struggled in the first half of the contest. They trailed at the end of the half 29-21, but the team fought hard in the second half to get the tough win at home.

Senior guard Austin Cunningham led the Rams on offense tonight with 22 points.

Senior forward Morgan McDonald followed with 13 points.

Junior forward Ryan McTavish had 12.

The Rams made key adjustments in the second half that really helped the team.

“In the second half we tried to pressure more defensively and I think it made it tougher for them to score,” head coach Justin Namolik said.

The Rams held Wesleyan scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half, helping them tie the game up and put them in a good place to hold on for the win.

The Rams go on the road for their next game to face the West Liberty Hilltoppers.

“To beat west liberty, we are going to have to handle their pressure and respond when they make their runs,” Namolik said.
