Shepherd Lacrosse Drops Season Opener

The Shepherd University lacrosse team got their season under way on Monday, March 2 as they fell to 19th ranked Seton Hill 18-6.

“It was a hard first game,” Shepherd coach Meghan Keelan said. “We saw some areas to improve on. It’s beneficial to see this now.”

Keelan added that it was a good learning experience for the team to face one of the better division II schools and that it is something they can build off of.

Junior midfielder Erin Phelan scored three goals on the day to lead the Rams.

Sophomore attack Alex Green, junior attacker Hunter Morris and attacker/midfielder Kelsey Eagan each scored goals for Shepherd.

Junior goalkeeper Savannah Shores recorded 10 saves in the loss.

Emily Fagan led Seton Hill with five goals on the day.

The Griffins had five different players score multiple goals each.

Before the season started, Keelan mentioned that this part of the schedule was the team’s hardest stretch, going up against three PSAC schools, which is one of the better conferences in the region.

Their next game against Millersville was supposed to take place on Saturday, March 7, however it was pushed back to Wednesday, March 11 due to snow.

“They play a similar style to us, which makes it easier to prep for,” Keelan said. “We lost by one to them last year, so we’ll be looking to make a statement.”

The team was originally supposed to open the season against Alderson-Broaddus, however the game was postponed twice due to snow. No word on when they will make that game up.
