Shepherd improves to 14-11 with win over Charleston

The Shepherd men’s basketball team drew a game closer to hitting the .500 mark in conference play Thursday night with a win over the University of Charleston, 94-83.

 

Shepherd dominated most of the first half controlling the tempo and showing dominance not on scoring but defensively. A late run by Charleston to end the first half put them up by 3 at 42-39 going into halftime.

 

The second half started with Charleston and Shepherd going back and forth with baskets with neither team being able to pull away. A late second 20-7 run by the Rams put them up by 17 with just over 7 minutes to play. Charleston never recovered from Shepherd’s big run and the Rams held on to win 94-83.

 

Shepherd shot 50.8 percent from the floor with a 48 percent performance from three-point range, while draining 22-of-27 free throws.

Naim Muhammad finished with a career high 37 points hitting on 12-of-20 field goal attempts with a 5-of-8 effort from three-point range.

 

Guard Skylar Roman added 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia State, tip off will be at 4 p.m.
