The Shepherd men’s basketball will head home from West Virginia’s state capital after a 25-point loss at the hands of the University of Charleston Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles came out of the gate hot hitting their first four shots and jumping to an early 10-2 lead just two minutes into the game. The Rams found a slight rhythm drawing the score to within 5 at 19-4 with 14:30 left in the half, but that would be the closest the Rams would be for the remainder of the game as Charleston pulled away to a 37-25 heading into the locker room for halftime.
Charleston kept the momentum heading into the second half scoring 12 of the first 14 points of the second half extending the lead to 49-28 5 just 5 minutes in. The Golden Eagles didn’t miss a beat the remainder of the half continuing to dominate on the scored board on their way to a 76-51 final score dropping the Rams record to 8-5 over all and a sub .500 3-4 in the Mountain East Conference.
Steffan Davis led all scorers with 16, while Charleston had six players in double figures.
The Rams hit the court again Saturday Jan. 14 at home when they will take on Urbana University at 4 p.m.
