Shepherd basketball comes to an end

Glenville State looks inside in their victory over Shepherd

The Shepherd men’s basketball team ended their 2015-16 campaign Tuesday night with an 89-90 loss to the Glennville State Pioneers in the first round of the Mountain East Conference tournament.

The Rams and Pioneers played a high tempo back and forth first half with neither team being able to gain a clear advantage over the other. Glenville State took the largest lead of the half when they gained a 6 point lead with just under 4 minutes remaining before halftime. Shepherd quickly battled back taking the lead again just 2 minutes later and headed into halftime with a 41-39 advantage.

The teams continued to battle back and forth as the second half started and it appeared it would be a game that would come down to the last shot, but as the second half reached the midway point the tables began to turn. Glenville State took their largest lead of the game at 75-63 controlling the tempo and never allowing the Rams the get any closer than 5 for the remainder of the game.

Shepherd as a team shot 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arch, while going 14-17 from the foul line.

Steffen Davis led the Rams scoring a team high 22 points.

The Rams finished the season going 15-14 with a 10-12 record against Mountain East Conference opponents.
