The Rams volleyball team hit their stride at the perfect point of the season and now look poised for a deep playoff run in the Mountain East Conference tournament as they finished the season on a six-game win streak.
During the late season win streak, the Rams executed four sweeps of those six opponents.
Another factor that contributed to the teams’ hot streak late in the season were players returning to form after injury.
“Staying healthy has been our top priority all season with only 10 players,” said head volleyball coach Alex Hoekstra. “Becca Kern and Peyton Lindblad have recovered from injuries and given us an extra boost in the second half of the season.”
The extra boost the two give the Rams team was evident Saturday afternoon, as setter Kern led the team with 21 of the Rams 37 assists. The usual team leader in assists Jessica Karcz, contributed 14 of her own as the two provided openings for the offense throughout the match.
With their Saturday loss, Glenville State finished their season a disappointing 0-25, as they have no choice but to start early in getting ready for next season.
“We have proven that we can play at a high level and we will not be looked at as the underdog anymore,” Hoekstra said. “I expect us to make a deep run in the conference tournament.”
Rams sophomore hitter Cambreia Hill had another quality performance as she registered a game high 13 kills, with outside hitter Lindblad contributing 11 of her own as the two prevented the Glenville offense from gaining any rhythm.
Rams libero Imani Major also tied for the game high in digs with Glenville state’s Bailey Brawner, as they both had 17 for the match.
The Rams now have to wait for seeding to be released.
