Rams split with Concord to earn 10th MEC win

On a gloomy day Monday in Shepherdstown the Rams baseball team earned their 16th victory splitting in a double header against the Concord University Mountain Lions.

In game one of the double header the Rams and Mountain Lions both struggled early to get any offensive production, in the third inning however the Rams broke the 0-0 tie when JJ Sarty hit a 2 out homerun over the left field wall giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. Shepherd added three more runs the following inning with RBI’s from Daniel Heleine, Zane Bard, and Sarty giving the Rams a 5-0 lead at the end of the fourth. The Rams struck again in the sixth scoring five more runs off RBI’s from Ron Farley, Christian Hamel, and Heleine. Concord added their lone run in the seventh inning, and the Rams went on to a 10-1 victory.

Heleine led the Rams at the plate going 2-4 with 4 RBI’s. John Bently improved his record to 3-2 on the season in the victory

In game two the Shepherd and Concord dueled out in a pitching battle combining for on 4 runs compared to the 11 combined scored in the first game. The Mountain Lions broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning, then adding a run in each of the next two innings taking a 3-0 after 6. Concord kept the Rams scoreless until the bottom of a the ninth when Brandon Kirk singled and Darius Jones came into score giving Shepherd their only run of the game falling 3-1.

Jamie Driver’s record dropped to 3-4 with the lose.

The Rams will hit the field again Tuesday April 5 when they take on Shippensburg University at home, first pitch is 3pm.
