(THE PICKET) – The Rams kept their fans happy Saturday with a big win against the University of Charleston. Despite the torrential downpour delaying the game, the fans had only good things to say about their experience at the home opener.
Lou Stemple, who has a grandson on the team, came from Rivesville, West Virginia, for the game. She said her fan experience was wonderful. She had a great time and thought that, “everyone was enthusiastic and into the game.” She says her favorite part of the game was having her family there to watch too.
Kim James traveled an hour and a half to attend the game. James and her husband have season tickets and love tailgating before all the home games. Their favorite part about tailgating is spending time with their daughter who is a student at Shepherd, other family and friends.
“The halftime show was nice,” James said. “There was a lot of fan support and school spirit. It was nice to see everyone coming out for the game even after the rain.”
Charlie Lutman played as a linebacker for the Shepherd football team 1962 through 1966 and was inducted into the Shepherd Hall of Fame.
He called Saturday’s game, “Super. Loved the rain and couldn’t wait until it was over to go to the stadium and watch them Rams go!”
When Lutman played at Shepherd about 200 fans attended the games, he said, so seeing the program grow is great. Watching the defense play, especially the men in his former position, was his favorite part about the game.
Carla and Kelsey Miller, a mother-daughter duo have been coming to Shepherd football games for quite some time. Carla’s father attended Shepherd, she followed in his footsteps, and now Kelsey is doing the same. Kelsey is a sophomore at Shepherd and loves that she is carrying on the family legacy.
The Ram’s next home game is the Sept. 26, against Notre Dame. This is the Homecoming game.
