Panel proposes classes plow ahead during snow

Class schedules would be adjusted to avoid cancellations during snowfalls, under a plan being discussed by Student Government Association.

Also, Shepherd University is weighing whether to keep the student center, game zone and wellness center open for student use if the University must close because of weather.

“The Calendar Committee has talked about a model for days when there is a delay due to snow or ice where morning classes would no longer be cancelled, but instead pushed back and shortened so they will not interfere with evening classes,” said Caitlin O’Connor, head of the Student Government Association campus relations during a March 3 SGA meeting.

“Under this model, some absences would have to be excused, especially for non-traditional students,” O’Connor said.

SGA Advisor Dr. Thomas Segar revealed that he is in talks with multiple administrators to increase the amount of activities available to students on campus during snow days.

“Some ideas include opening the student center, game zone and wellness center,” Segar said.

SGA vice President Graham Scott said that he is discussing with administration ways to keep the wellness center open during snow days, and plans to update the progress made in these discussions during the next weekly SGA meeting.

SGA meetings are held every Tuesday on the third floor of the student center at 5 p.m.
