(THE PICKET) — Independent record label Secretly Group, protest project 30 Songs, 30 Days, and the Revolutions Per Minute organization have teamed up to lead a project of change to release one song daily for the first 100 days of our 45th President and his administration in office.
On the website for “Our First 100 Days”, the organization notes, “All profits raised from Our First 100 Days will go directly to organizations working on the front lines of climate, women’s rights, immigration and fairness.”
Artists Angel Olsen, Toro Y Moi, How to Dress Well, and many other respected talents are producing or releasing archived tracks dealing with themes of advocating for women’s reproductive rights, climate change, and the civil rights of immigrants.
Suuns’ – a rock band based in Montreal – latest track in their repertoire, ‘Native Tongue’, forges a synth heavy path that paints a dark and dystopian landscape. The result is a cyber punk dream that flows with a desperate, brooding sensibility with a tone of conflicted hope.
The tracks are scheduled for release on Bandcamp, an independent streaming and download service, with full access and download to each of the cuts for a minimum of $30 contribution. All proceeds gathered by the “Our First 100 Days” organization will go towards causes for change, such as Southerners on New Ground, All Above All, and The People’s Climate Movement.
The production is aided by the organization Revolutions Per Minute. The organization is devoted to giving artists the tools to push themselves towards their own brand of activism and philanthropy, which includes “…over 43 important issues including civic engagement, environment, education, immigration, racial justice, and disaster response,” according to the Revolutions Per Minute website
