Men’s Soccer

After dropping their opening game of the 2013 season, the Shepherd University Men’s Soccer team was looking to rebound against Slippery Rock. However, they suffered another setback from a 4-0 loss.

Just over a minute into the match, Slippery Rock jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and never looked back when Zach Hall recorded an unassisted tally. Slippery Rock posted a second goal prior to the break at the 31:54 mark when Stephen McConahy scored off of a pass from Declan Brennan.

Any hopes at a rally for the Rams were dashed when Slippery Rock tallied two decisive goals at the 53:39 and 56:22 mark to complete the scoring for the match. Senior David Leonard recorded four saves in goal for Shepherd while Slippery Rock held an 18-11 advantage in shots and 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

With two losses in their first two games, the Rams were desperate to get back on track with a victory Wednesday, Sept. 11 when they traveled to Murfreesboro, N.C. to face Chowan. The game remained scoreless until the second half, when junior Fernand Feukeu scored off of a corner kick by freshman Ryan Byard. The tally gave Shepherd a much needed 1-0 advantage and led to a stretch of three more unanswered goals.

Minutes after the game’s first goal, senior Kevin Doyle scored off of a feed from junior Kyle Ransom to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. At the 85:31 mark, sophomore Lawrence Bass scored off of an assist from senior Griffin Frazier to make the score 3-0. Frazier then tallied an unassisted goal at the 87:30 mark to complete the scoring for the game. Leonard recorded four saves in goal while the Rams held a 43-13 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks in the 4-0 win over Chowan.
