Senior outside linebacker Dominic Tolson adds a scary combination of size and speed to the Ram defense. The graduate of Central High School in Capitol Heights, Md., transferred to Shepherd from St. Paul’s in Lawrencville, Va., last season. He has been nothing but a great addition to the football team as well as the university.
This week, The Picket caught up with Tolson to ask him a few questions.
Q: Both Shepherd and St. Paul’s compete in NCAA Division II. What are some of the differences between the institutions?
A: St. Paul’s is a historically black college, so there’s that. Shepherd has a more diverse student population as well as faculty.
Q: Being a student athlete, you do not have nearly the same amount of downtime as a student with practice, meetings and lifting. In your precious downtime, what do you like to do?
A: Just play some video games, hang out with the team away from the field. Try to keep my mind away from the field, really.
Q: What makes you the most excited about the near-completion of the underpass?
A: Shorter walk to the east campus, no doubt. The walk right now is a pain.
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat on campus?
A: Definitely the Wellness Café. Not the dining hall.
Q: Besides playing football, what other sports do you enjoy watching at Shepherd?
A: Basketball, definitely basketball.
Q: Are you excited for the upcoming Division II playoffs?
A: Of course, man. Of course!
