Local Martinsburg artist to begin selling T-shirts

Laura Tellus

(THE PICKET)—Have you ever said something witty or clever and thought that would make a cool T-shirt? That is the exact idea that initially inspired local artist and starting entrepreneur Laura Tellus.

Tellus, a Martinsburg, West Va., artist, is attempting to raise funds to start her own full-time custom made T-shirt and general artistic geek effects business.

Her first effort is a T-shirt in Shepherd University’s blue and gold with the words: Ram U.

“Shepherdstown is an artistic community, an eclectic town, and the University is a place of local pride, people know it,” she said. “I also have a number of current student and alumni friends, it seemed like it would be a fun appreciated thing.”

Tellus who has studied theater scenic design, architecture, and art wants her business to focus on doing things that are fun with an artist’s flair and some clever humor. She also makes a point that she doesn’t just want to be in business to make dollars and cents, stating “I want to make new creative designs people will like with a lower cost when possible, this is more about what people would like than making a profit for me.”

Tellus seeks to raise enough funds through her RAM U T-shirt to get off the ground with better equipment to do silk screen T-shirts in new and different designs for her Etsy-based business RicassoPicasso.

Everyone who buys one of the initial fundraiser shirts will also receive a discount coupon on a future order from her business. The Booster fundraiser ends on December 14, 2015, and the Ram U shirts will ship to supporters after Jan 2, 2016.

Tellus’s fundraiser T-shirts can be looked at and purchased thru https://www.booster.com/hopeful-entr.
