Lax Stumbles Against Slippery Rock

Shepherd Laxs has been having a winning season. But on Thursday they fought a hard close game losing to Slippery Rock 13-12.

 

Senior midfielder Nicole Ruane led the team with four goals, which three came from the second half alone.

 

Sophomore attacker/ midfielder Kelsey Eagan scored three goals and freshman attacker Hunter Morris contributed to the scoring leading the Rams with two assists. Sophomore attacker Gerorgia Karr, senior midfielder Krista Tippett and freshman midfielder Erin Phelan each conected with a single goal.

 

Sophomore netminder Lily Schmulowitz had 10 saves for the Rams. Slippery Rock had a 12-9 advantage until Ruane scored two easy shots cutting Slippery Rocks lead to one with 3:57 remaining. Slippery Rock scored again and Shepherds Eagan found a clean shot bringing the Rams closer 13-12, but it just wasn’t enough.

 

Shepherd had a 32-28 advantage in shots, 24-20 advantage in ground balls and 15-11 control over draw controls.

 

On Saturday the Rams bounced back and came out with a impressive 29-14 win over Findlay. Kelsey Eagan carried the Rams with five goals and three assists. Junior midfielder Christina Ferrara and Karr each scored four goals and led Shepherd in assists with five.

 

Tippett and junior midfielder Jenny Carvey had three goals. Phelan and Ruanue each added a two goals. Six players had single goals; Hanna Wharton, Therese Lang, Alexandra Coates, Alyx Albano, Maggie Garvey, and Morris.

 

Schmulowitz matched her earlier performance of 10 saves. Shepherd was down 4-0 and was only leading 12-10 at the break, but that was the closest Findlay got. Shepherd had a 51-36 advantage in shots, 36-31 advantage in ground balls and 28-17 advantage with draw controls seven of them came from Morris, game high.

 

Shepher set a new record with 29 goals in a game that was set at 26 in 2011 by West Virgina Wesleyan. The most points that was scored in a game was 48, and 28 draw controls. This season Shepherd has had seven games with over 20 goals being scored.

Shepherd is now 8-4.
