The Shepherd Lady Rams pulled off a come-from-behind victory against Fairmont State and were able to win three of four games played during the week, improving their record to 12-6 on the season.
Entering the matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 30, Fairmont State had only lost two games on the season. Despite the Lady Falcons jumping out to a two set lead, the Lady Rams fought back winning three sets in a row to win the match. Senior Valerie Bour led the charge with 15 kills while senior Katie Beecher and freshman Kayleigh Helgesen recorded double digit kills. Beecher had 14 and Helgesen notched 10. Junior Samantha Scroggins led the team with 17 digs.
The Lady Rams were able to take another five set match in their win against West Liberty. Junior Taylor Allen led the way in kills and digs, recording 16 kills and 28 digs. Bour had 15 kills and 26 digs. Helgesen added 15 kills. Scroggins was third member of the team to have over 20 digs, coming away with 23.
Shepherd’s other victory of the week came against Alderson Broaddus. They won 3-0. Bour led the team once again in kills with 11 while Beecher and Helgesen recorded eight each. Senior Kayla Motheral had seven kills. Bour and Scroggins both recorded 10 digs and senior Taylor Belella had seven.
The lone loss of the week came on the road against #6 Wheeling Jesuit. The Lady Rams were unable to take a set against the Lady Cardinals. Helgesen had a team high nine kills and Taylor Allen led the team with 11 digs. Emma Schleucher led Wheeling Jesuit with 13 kills and Samantha Obringer recorded 11 digs.
Next on the schedule for Shepherd are road matches against West Virginia State University and the University of Charleston.
