The Shepherd University Lady Rams had a strong week of volleyball, winning both of their opening games in the Mountain East Conference while losing one non-conference game.
The Lady Rams hosted the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and came away with the victory three sets to one. Senior Valerie Bour led the team with 16 kills while junior Taylor Allen and senior Kayla Motheral both reached double digits with 10 each. Junior Samantha Scroggins had a team high 18 digs while Allen had 13.
Their next match was against Concord University and they were able to sweep the Mountain Lions 3-0. Bour led the team once again in kills, 13, and recorded 14 digs. Senior Katie Beecher had 10 kills. Allen and freshman Kayleigh Helgesen recorded eight kills respectively. Scroggins recorded 12 digs and senior Taylor Bellala had 10.
The team’s lone loss of the week came at undefeated Seton Hill. The Lady Griffins won 3-1. Bour and Helgesen had 16 kills each, which led the team while Samantha Scroggins had a team high 22 digs. Taylor Allen recorded 18 digs and Valerie Bour added 17.
Shepherd will host four different matchups next week, including conference matches against Urbana University and Notre Dame College of Ohio.
