SHEPHERDSTOWN – Three games on the road in one week may sound challenging, but the Lady Rams made it look easy. Last week the Shepherd women beat West Virginia Wesleyan College, Notre Dame College, and Urbana University to improve their record to 16-7.
On Monday, Feb. 2, the Rams traveled to West Virginia Wesleyan College to play the Bobcats. Senior center Gabby Flinchum led the team to their win with 18 points. Freshman guard Morgan Arden tacked on an additional 12 points, and senior guard Rachel Johnson added 11 points to the score. Shepherd shot just over 50 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The Bobcats connected on only 36 percent of their shots from the floor and 58 percent of their free throws. The Rams ended the night with a 72-62 win.
Later that week, the Shepherd women took on the Falcons at Notre Dame College. They achieved a 72-61 win after a few big runs throughout the game. Rachel Johnson scored 17 points to help the Rams get their win, and sophomore guard Cara Mason wasn’t far behind with 16 points. Shepherd shot 49 percent from the floor, 31 percent from three-point range, and 83 percent of their free throws. The Rams outshot the Falcons, who only connected 39 percent from the floor, 21 percent from beyond the arc, and 65 percent of their free throws.
On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Lady Rams finished off their week on the road at Urbana University. Rachel Johnson scored 21 points against the Blue Knights, and sophomore forward Liz Myers added an additional 14 points. The Rams outshot the Blue Knights from the floor, three-point range, and the charity stripe, leading them to an 80-64 win.
The Rams will be back in action on Thursday when they host the 16-7 West Liberty Hilltoppers. In their previous match, West Liberty came out on top 90-87.
